21 Permitless, 20 Shall Issue

Call it a milestone.

When updating our concealed carry map, after Texas switched to permitless carry (a.k.a. Constitutional Carry, Vermont Carry, None Of Your Damn Business Carry, etc.), we noticed the tally for that form of (non) permitting included more states than "shall issue" carry permits.

Just a few years ago only a few states were permitless, and we calculated that it did not seem to cause more firearm homicides ... quite the opposite.

Early next year we will run the numbers again and see how the broader degree of permitless carry impacted crime (though we have a mighty chore in skipping past the very unusual 2020 and early 2021 era where nothing was normal).
