This unpaid role tasks you with performing data discovery, data mining, calculations, and data summary work.

Requirements

  • Some education in research methodologies (can be part of unrelated course work)
  • Basic knowledge of statistics at least to multivariate regressions
  • Experience in data quality and analysis self-checking
  • Microsoft Excel experience and an up-to-date license for Excel

Description

In this role, you will work with and at the direction of Gun Facts founder, Guy Smith. The work will range from small discrete task (i.e., “measure the covariance of private gun ownership internationally to assault rates”) to larger-scale projects (i.e., “perform a cross-section study of child gun death rates against safe storage laws by state”).

Given the nature of Gun Facts research projects, Guy Smith will help in terms of:

  1. defining the goal
  2. collaborating on metrics
  3. providing any data which has already been collected
  4. guiding through the processes
  5. assisting with data acquisition (mainly via guidance)

This role requires some self-direction, but the tasks/projects will remain collaborative until such time as you demonstrate self-sufficiency in execution.
