Gun Facts maintains a database of U.S. mass public shootings (MPSs). This database uses the original criminology definition of MPS: four or more people are killed in a single location, not including attackers and not part of another crime.
The Gun Facts MPS database has two elements that were first found in this database (though other researchers have replicated our efforts). This includes:
- Determining if any of the weapons used conformed to the 1994 Federal Assault Weapons Ban criteria.
- If the event was a “cattle pen scenario”, which is a unique Gun facts observation about what makes MPSs more deadly.
You can optionally view and download the database with this link.
